May 25, Monday, is Memorial Day, which is fedral holiday so this weekend becomes a long weekend known as Memorial Day Weekend.

Memorial Day is formerly known as Decoration Day, which commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the civil war), it was expanded after World War I to include American casualities of any war or military action. When Memorial Day comes, most Americans commemorate not only deceased soldiers but also ancestors as well. People visit graveyards or cemetaries to decorate with flowers or to place American flag poles. Since this is the first long weekend in the late spring, many families have picnic while babecuing. Some families enjoy first family trip together.

I do have also some memories of Memorial Day Weekend, which have to do with family vacation and fishing trips. Since all childrens have grown up to have their own family life, it is unlikely to go trip together often as much as we want but good old memories linger with us. I am sure everyone have some unforgetable momories on Memorial Day. I am hoping that all members of Chicagoland Korean Rotary Club have a wonerful Memorial Day Weekend whatever they do!
